Wooden carvings have a long tradition in Japan. Manifold common scenes of daily life from
ancient Japan are handed down through wooden carvings, which are still treasured and give us
a vivid picture of those times past. The temples as well transferred knowledge of the
Buddhist scriptures through wooden carvings.
